Tottenham Transfer News: Layvin Kurzawa Reportedly Close to PSG Exit

James DudkoMar 20, 2018

Layvin Kurzawa is reportedly close to the exit door at Paris Saint-Germain amid reports Tottenham Hotspur are keen on the full-back.

French source Le Parisien (h/t Sport Witness) has reported Kurzawa is the full-back most likely to leave the Parc des Princes this summer.

It's good news for Spurs since Sport Witness detailed how "Tottenham have signed two players from PSG over the past couple of windows, showing there’s working contacts between the two clubs."

Those players, winger Lucas Moura and right-back Serge Aurier, have added to the quality of manager Mauricio Pochettino's squad. Signing Kurzawa would boost Pochettino's options on the left side of his defence.

A report from RMC Sport and BFM TV (h/t Tom Coast of Sport Witness) said Kurzawa could be on his way to Tottenham to replace Danny Rose.

The latter is said to be at odds with his manager because Pochettino "never fully forgave" an interview Rose gave to Dave Kidd of The Sun in August where he bemoaned his contract, per MailOnline's Kieran Gill.

Rose looks set to leave Tottenham, but it's debatable whether Kurzawa would be an adequate replacement.

The former AS Monaco ace can play left-back or center-back but has struggled since moving to the French capital in 2015. There have been some high moments, such as the hat-trick he bagged against Anderlecht in this season's UEFA Champions League.

It marked a first in Europe's premier club competition, per OptaJean:

Yet for all his good moments, Kurzawa has had his lows, most notably not being part of the squad for the Champions League last-16 tie against Real Madrid. It left Kurzawa incensed, per another report from RMC Sport and BFM TV (h/t Coast).

Given his struggles, Kurzawa could be far from a lock to start ahead of Ben Davies as Spurs' first-choice left-back. The Welshman has impressed in relief of Rose this season, chipping in with two goals and five assists.

Davies has staked his claim to be Rose's full-time replacement. Even so, Kurzawa's potential understandably remains enticing.

He's still only 25, and his versatility and technique would be assets in any squad.

It's no wonder Barcelona have been linked, per Tomas Andreu of Sport, while Juventus are also said to be keen, according to Tuttosport (h/t Calciomercato.com).

If Spurs can sign Kurzawa ahead of the competition, Pochettino may be the ideal manager to revive the fortunes of a so far floundering talent.
