Michael Porter Jr. Declares for 2018 NBA Draft After 1 Year at Missouri
Despite missing the majority of his freshman season with an injury, Missouri Tigers star Michael Porter Jr. is the latest star to go one-and-done.
Porter announced the news on his Instagram page:
Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports reported he will sign with an agent.
The No. 2 overall recruit in the class of 2017, per 247Sports, was injured just two minutes into his Mizzou debut and needed back surgery. The injury caused him to miss the remainder of the regular season, coming back for the SEC tournament. He posted 12 points on 5-of-17 shooting and eight rebounds in his return against Georgia.
Overall, Porter appeared in just three games for Missouri including its NCAA tournament loss to Florida State in the first round. He averaged 10 points on 33.3 percent shooting and added 6.7 rebounds per game.
Entering his collegiate career, the 6'10", 215-pound forward was widely expected to be in the mix for the No. 1 overall pick in June's draft. His back injury could affect his stock as teams evaluate the draft class.
