Missouri PF Jontay Porter Discusses Investment in Cryptocurrency

Tim DanielsMar 16, 2018

Missouri freshman forward Jontay Porter said he's built a portfolio of cryptocurrencies as a way to diversify his revenue streams.

On Thursday, Aaron Reiss of the Kansas City Star reported the story of Porter selling part of his investment in five cryptocurrency companies—Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, Ripple and Tron—to help pay off a vehicle his parents purchased for him.

"I was kind of sad, because (the market) was about to bounce back," he said. "But my mom needed it right away."

The Tigers power forward, who's the brother of Mizzou teammate Michael Porter Jr., explained he started with a $300 investment and has continued to add from there, per Reiss.

"I did my own research, obviously; that’s what you should always do if you're investing," Porter said. "I'm obviously not going to put all of my money in cryptocurrency."

Porter and the Tigers open the 2018 NCAA tournament Friday night against Florida State.
