Edinson Cavani Reportedly Eyeing PSG Exit Amid Man United, Chelsea Interest

Christopher SimpsonMar 9, 2018

Edinson Cavani is reportedly unhappy at Paris Saint-Germain and considering his future at the club, which is believed to have put Manchester United and Chelsea on alert.

Dominique Severac of Le Parisien (h/t Metro) reported Neymar's arrival last summer has left the Uruguayan feeling undervalued by the club, and his discontent is such that he's ready to move on at the end of the season.

PSG are said to be prepared to accept €60 million (£53 million) for the 31-year-old, an attainable price for the likes of United and Chelsea, and the pair could be set to compete for his services alongside unnamed suitors from La Liga.

Cavani has netted 33 goals for Les Parisiens this season as well as contributing eight assists.

There was little interaction between the striker and PSG's other forward players during their two legs against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League, though, per L'Equipe (h/t football writer Mohammed Ali):

ESPN FC's Jonathan Johnson believed that was telling and is a signal of Cavani's impending departure from the French capital:

Cavani is among the most prolific strikers in world football—he has scored 40 goals for Uruguay and netted at least 25 goals in all competitions in each of the last eight seasons, stretching back to his time in Napoli.

In six of those campaigns he has scored over 30 goals, and he spent much of his first three years in Paris playing outside of his preferred role because of Zlatan Ibrahimovic's presence up front.

Despite racking up a significant number of goals every season, Cavani has a reputation for missing a lot of chances, as WhoScored.com demonstrated:

However, part of the reason he is on the end of so many clear-cut opportunities in the first place is his intelligent movement off the ball and predatory instincts.

Cavani only turned 31 last month, but he's nevertheless at an age where clubs might think twice about spending over ÂŁ50 million on him.

He doesn't look to have a long-term future with PSG, though, and few players can offer a greater record of goals at the top level, so perhaps one will pursue him as a relatively short-term option.
