Sean O'Malley Stretchered out of UFC 222 After Suffering Major Leg Injury in Win

Timothy RappMar 4, 2018

UFC bantamweight Sean O'Malley was taken out of the Octagon on a stretcher with a severe right leg injury Saturday night following his win over Andre Soukhamthath at UFC 222 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, according to Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports.

O'Malley suffered the injury in the third round after Soukhamthath hit him with a kick, buckling his leg. But O'Malley was able to finish the fight despite essentially only having the use of one leg.

While the judges awarded Soukhamthath the third round, O'Malley, 23, was already up 20-17 before the round on the cards of two judges and 20-18 on the third. That left him breathing room to drop the third and final round but still win the fight.

"I try to be unique and dynamic when I fight," he told Joe Rogan after the fight, literally from his back. "I want to do things no one has done before. I don't know what happened. My foot went numb and I can't feel it. Just happy to fight through it and get the win. Welcome to the Sugar show!"

"It's nothing a little medicine can't fix at the afterparty," he added, per Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com, adding: "I f---ing love you, Joe Rogan."

Suffice to say, more than a few folks were impressed with the grit O'Malley displayed:

Others were a bit surprised by the approach Soukhamthath took after O'Malley injured his leg:

Regardless, O'Malley won the fight, and given the toughness he displayed, he probably won over quite a few new fans in the process. The win moved him to 10-0 in his professional career and 2-0 in the UFC.
