Report: Amazon, UFC Agree Deal to Stream PPV Events Starting with UFC 222

Mike ChiariFeb 28, 2018

UFC and Amazon have reportedly reached an agreement to stream pay-per-views beginning with Saturday's UFC 222 card.

According to John Ourand of SportsBusiness Daily, the events will stream on Amazon Prime Video, although viewers do not have to be Prime members to access it.

UFC 222 can reportedly be watched on Amazon Prime Video at a price point of $64.99.

Ourand added that while the terms and value of the UFC's deal with Amazon isn't yet clear, it is a non-exclusive pact, which means the UFC's pay-per-views can still air on other platforms.

Further, Ourand reported the UFC is shopping its overall media rights, which Fox Sports currently own. In an effort to keep the rights, Fox Sports has reportedly made a $200 million offer.

This isn't Amazon's first foray into sports. The company struck a deal with the NFL that saw it air 11 Thursday Night Football games during the 2017 season.

Amazon also reached an agreement with the ATP to air tennis from 2019 through 2023.

According to a CNBC report from 2016, Amazon was exploring the possibility of developing a premium sports package, and it held discussions with the NFL, MLB, NBA and MLS.

Teaming up with the UFC on the heels of its NFL deal figures to be a major coup for Amazon in its continued efforts to be a presence in the sports streaming market.

UFC 222 will take place Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and Cris Cyborg will headline in defending her featherweight title against Yana Kunitskaya.

In addition to Amazon, UFC 222 will be available through traditional PPV.
