Chris Chelios Defies Age in Chicago

GoucheOct 21, 2009

Refusing to give into father time 47 year old Chris Chelios refuses to hang up his skates and call it a career. Chelios who is a two time Stanley Cup winner and has enjoyed what  has been a hall of fame career with the Montreal Candiens, Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings will be playing on Friday night for the Chicago Wolves who are at home to the Manitoba Moose. Chelios who has won three Norris Trophies in his career brings experience and leadership skills to this young AHL team. “We are very excited to have someone of Chris’ stature join our team,” Wolves GM Wendell Young said. “He will be an excellent example for our young players.” Known for his fierce competitiveness and gritty play Chelios has racked up 185 career goals and 948 points in his career along with a staggering 2,891 penalty minutes. In accepting an opportuniy to play in the American Hockey League against players half his age that shows in my opinion an athlete playing for the love of the game as opposed to the money. I for one will be pulling for Chelios to earn a spot back in the NHL. “My son’s as old as some of these kids, but it’s going to be fun,” Chelios said. They’re very respectful kids and I intend to have a good time with these guys.”
