'Huge Interest' in Sergej Milinkovic-Savic Says Agent Amid Real Madrid Rumours
February 27, 2018
The agent for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has admitted there is "huge interest" in the player from some of European football's biggest clubs.
After a tremendous season the 23-year-old has been linked with a potential big-money move in the summer, and there's a number of illustrious outfits that have already made it known they'd love to land the player, according to his representative.
"There's huge interest in him from great clubs in Italy, England, Spain and France," said the player's representative, per Tuttomercatoweb (h/t Football Italia). "I don't want to talk about numbers, but I'm sure Sergei has it in him to be the best player in Europe in the next few years."
As noted by Football Italia, as of late the likes of Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have been noted as potential suitors for the all-action midfielder. It's added that Lazio have already confirmed they have rejected offers for him.
Milinkovic-Savic has been the driving force behind a strong season for Lazio. They sit in third place in the Italian top flight and in an excellent position to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.
As noted by football writer Ryan Baldi, the midfielder is capable of fulfilling so many different roles:
The interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world is warranted, as Milinkovic-Savic has showcased the attributes needed to make an impression at any team in Europe.
The Serbian influences the game in all phases of the field. Milinkovic-Savic is insatiable in his desire to win possession and difficult to take the ball from when he marches forward into the final third.
As noted by David Amoyal of ESPN FC, at times he's been unstoppable in Serie A:
Given his age, talent and importance to Lazio already, it would likely cost a huge amount of money to secure the signing of Milinkovic-Savic.
The Serie A side will be keen to build a side capable of challenging for the Scudetto and competing in the UEFA Champions League. The midfielder will be key to that, as Milinkovic-Savic is beginning to emerge as a talismanic figure.
From his position, he's been able to chip in with an impressive number of goals, per OptaPaolo:
But if Madrid, United and PSG decide to make a serious play for Milinkovic-Savic, it's going to be difficult for Lazio to keep him around.
The trio of teams linked have the financial might to test the resolve of the capital club, and while they all have midfield options in abundance already, the Lazio man is good enough to make an impact for any of those sides. As such, a nervous summer is surely in store for Lazio supporters.
