Boxer Scott Westgarth Dies in Hospital After Winning Fight
Boxer Scott Westgarth has died in hospital aged 31 after a points victory over Dec Spelman on Saturday.
Per BBC Sport, Westgarth fell ill backstage following the light-heavyweight bout in Doncaster, having appeared to be in some pain during his post-fight interviews.
Westgarth and Spelman fought on the undercard of Curtis Woodhouse's Commonwealth light-welterweight title eliminator, which was cancelled after the boxer was taken to hospital.
His promoter Stefy Bull was the one to break the news:
Opponent Spelman paid tribute to him on Twitter along with Woodhouse, who was due to fight John Wayne Hibbert:
So too did former world champion Frank Bruno and promoter Eddie Hearn:
For underdog Westgarth, the victory over Spelman was his seventh win from 10 fights, having lost two and drawn one of the other three.
He was pursuing an English title fight against Liam Conroy.
