Real Madrid Transfer News: Guti Urges Neymar to Join Blancos Amid Exit Rumours

Gianni VerschuerenFeb 23, 2018

Club legend Guti has become the latest to speak on the links between Real Madrid and Neymar, stating he believes the Brazilian should leave Paris Saint-Germain for the La Liga giants in order to progress his career.

Neymar has been linked with Los Blancos since he first made the move to France, and plenty of people involved with the club have addressed the ongoing rumours.

Guti, who works as a Real youth-team coach after a lengthy playing career with the club, has become the latest, per Cadena Ser (via ESPN FC's Adriana Garcia).

When asked if the Brazilian should move to Real, he said:

''I think so. In the end, he has been in an important club like Barcelona and now he is in another at PSG but you only really get to see him in the Champions League. All that is missing for him is Real Madrid. If he wants to progress and move further, in order to do that he needs to do it at Real Madrid.''

Earlier this month, star full-back Marcelo made similar comments to Esporte Interativo (h/t Marca's Virtudes Sanchez), saying he believes his compatriot will join him at Real.

Gossip website Diario Gol (ht Daily Express' Jack Otway) reported Los Blancos are keen on the 26-year-old, who is also wanted by Manchester United. The report even said Neymar has already used United's interest to force Real's hand.

Neymar has been a smash hit in Paris from a footballing perspective, scoring from the moment he arrived and leading Les Parisiens to the top of the Ligue 1 standings. There have been a handful of incidents already, however, and it has led to boos from the fans, per sportswriter Julien Laurens.

There have also been numerous reports of discourse in the dressing room, and French daily Le Parisien (h/t Sport) has reported on discontent between the player and manager Unai Emery.

While a summer exit just one year after PSG made him the most expensive player of all time still seems unlikely, rumours have persisted. Real also seem remarkably comfortable discussing the former Barcelona man and his future.

His Barcelona past likely wouldn't present an obstacle, as there is plenty of bad blood between Neymar and the Catalans, per ESPN FC's Samuel Marsden:

Landing Neymar could prove tricky for Real, as PSG would undoubtedly want to recoup as much as possible of their investment. If Los Blancos want the star forward to come to Madrid, they may have to break the transfer record to bring him in.

Guti also discussed the Real Madrid pecking order and how, with the exception of Cristiano Ronaldo, there is no player who is ''untouchable'' or has his spot in the team guaranteed. He highlighted the Portugal international as a standout, as well as rising starlet Marco Asensio and Isco, two of the club's top performers of late.
