Dennis Smith Jr. Planned to Use J. Cole in Final Round of Dunk Contest

Those who wanted to see more out of last Saturday's dunk competition during All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles might've been satisfied with Dallas Mavericks rookie guard Dennis Smith Jr.'s idea if he made it to the final round.

According to ESPN's Amin Elhassan on the Black Opinions Matter podcast (h/t Slam Online), Smith would've brought fellow North Carolina native J. Cole on the court and added a twist:

"If Dennis would have made it to the final round, [J. Cole] was going to throw him the alley-oop. The plan was, Cole would throw the 'oop, Dennis would dunk it, and Cole would catch the ball and then he'd dunk it too."

It's common to put non-athletes in the spotlight during the contest, but we've yet to see an outside participant dunk as well. The idea would've surely lit up the Staples Center.
