Lamar Odom Gives Advice to Johnny Manziel on TMZ; 'I'm a Big-Time Fan'

Mike ChiariFeb 19, 2018

Former NBA star Lamar Odom offered advice Sunday to former NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel in his continued efforts to turn his life around.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, Odom said was he was a "big-time fan" of Johnny Football and added that Manziel must "put higher power first. Whoever his God may be."

Odom said he believes that Manziel will find a way to make it back to the NFL eventually.

Both Odom and Manziel have dealt with the excessive use of drugs and alcohol in recent years.

In 2015, Odom nearly died after overdosing at a Nevada brothel.

Manziel had publicized issues with the use of alcohol, and in 2016, he was charged with misdemeanor assault against former girlfriend Colleen Crowley.

After meeting the terms of his conditional dismissal agreement, the charge against Manziel was dropped in 2017.

Manziel recently said on Good Morning America (h/t TMZ Sports) that he is taking the necessary steps to get his life in order: "I am taking medication for bipolar, and I am working to try to make sure I don’t fall back into any type of depression...because I know where that leads me and I know how slippery a slope that is for me."

After the CFL announced it would allow Manziel to play in the league in 2018, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats revealed in January that they were attempting to negotiate a deal with the signal-caller, per ESPN.com's Kevin Seifert.

Following a standout collegiate career at Texas A&M that included a Heisman Trophy, Manziel was selected by the Cleveland Browns with the No. 22 overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft.

He spent two years with the Browns and posted a 2-6 record as a starter.

Manziel completed 57.0 percent of his passes for 1,675 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions while rushing for 259 yards and one score.

Manziel was waived following the 2015 season, and he hasn't played professional football since.
