Rory MarsdenFeb 20, 2018

Snowboard big air made its Olympic debut at Pyeongchang 2018 in South Korea on Monday as the women's qualifying took place at the Alpensia Ski Jumping Centre.

It will be the turn of the men on Wednesday as they look to book their spot in Saturday's final.

The action will get under way at 9:30 a.m. local time, so it will be on during the early hours of Wednesday morning in the United Kingdom and late Tuesday night in the United States.

The first runs of Heat 1 will begin at 12:30 a.m. GMT on Wednesday, which is 7:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

Live streaming will be available via NBC (click here) in the U.S., and BBC Sport and Eurosport (click here and here) in the UK.

The men's big air competition is fairly open with a number of contenders likely hopeful of claiming the gold medal. However, there are a handful of notable front-runners.

Canada's Max Parrot will enter the competition as the favourite having won the big air contest at X Games Aspen, Colorado, in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

The 23-year-old's compatriot, Mark McMorris, should also be in the mix. He boasts great pedigree from the X Games and has also already won two Olympic medals, bronze in the slopestyle at Sochi 2014 in Russia and Pyeongchang 2018.

The slopestyle gold medallist in South Korea, American Red Gerard, will be going for a second triumph of the 2018 Games and should be high on confidence after his early triumph.

The 17-year-old returned to the United States in between his events.

It will be interesting to see whether the long-haul travelling has an effect on the youngster's performance in the big air contest.

Norway's Marcus Kleveland will also have hopes of troubling the podium. The 18-year-old boasts the significant achievement of being the first person ever to complete a quadruple cork 1800 in competition.

He is a two-time gold medalist in the slopestyle at the Winter X Games, while he won silver medals in the big air at the same events in 2017 and 2018.
