NBA All-Star Game 2018: Team LeBron vs. Team Steph Jerseys and Top Player Shoes
February 16, 2018
Plenty of basketball fans are looking forward to NBA All-Star Weekend to see the brightest talent in the league showcased in both the 2018 All-Star Game and All-Star Saturday Night.
For one segment of the fanbase, this weekend is also an opportunity to view the 2018 All-Star jerseys in action, as well as get a peek at the signature shoes the league's biggest stars will don for the occasion.
Below is a look at this year's jerseys and some of the most eye-catching sneakers fans can expect to see in Sunday's game.
All-Star Jerseys
This is the first NBA All-Star Game since the NBA switched from Adidas to Nike as its official apparel provider. Nike used the opportunity to design an All-Star jersey quite different from past iterations.
Throughout the event's history, All-Star jerseys have generally adopted a red, white and blue color scheme or a design that incorporates the colors of the host city. That couldn't be further from the case in 2018.
Jordan Brand unveiled monochrome white and black jerseys to represent the respective teams captained by LeBron James and Stephen Curry. The NBA shared multiple looks at the new uniforms:
"The Jordan Brand NBA All-Star Edition uniform embodies that attitude with a distinctive look," said David Creech, Jordan Brand's vice president of design, in the company's press release about the uniforms. "Our goal was to combine the street-premium Jordan sportswear feel with Los Angeles style for a jersey that looks just as good on the court as off it. We're excited to see this year's NBA All-Stars represent their teams in Jordan style on the biggest, brightest stage."
The 2018 All-Star jerseys have a clean look, and the understated design will help fans focus on the player kicks on display.
Signature Player Shoes
B/R Kicks shared a picture of the shoes Nike is releasing in conjunction with the All-Star Game:
Kyrie Irving, Paul George and Kevin Durant are all 2018 All-Stars, and each player has his own shoe for the occasion.
Here's a closer look at the three:
Of course, Nike isn't going to roll out its edition of All-Star shoes without acknowledging The King. According to Sneaker News' Ben Felderstein, James' LeBron 15s are influenced by the All-Star host city of Los Angeles. The "rust pink" color scheme symbolizes the stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Sneaker News shared a photo of the kicks:
While Nike adopted a more colorful theme for its shoes celebrating All-Star Weekend, Under Armour is keeping with the minimalist jersey aesthetic for Curry.
The Under Armour Curry 4 is using an all-white colorway:
James received the first pick in the All-Star draft, which he used to select Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant. Because of that, Curry was given first pick of the jersey colors, selecting all-black jerseys to create an eye-catching contrast with his kicks.
Adidas is capitalizing on All-Star Weekend by unveiling the second edition of its signature sneaker for Houston Rockets star James Harden:
Forbes' Kurt Badenhausen reported last May that Harden's Adidas sneaker was the fifth-highest selling signature NBA shoe. That's not bad for a debut, and Harden's popularity has likely grown as a result of the Rockets' success and his MVP-caliber campaign this season.
Not to be outdone, Adidas also released the BAPE x Adidas Dame 4 Friday for the All-Star Game, which is bound to be among the most popular among sneaker fans during All-Star Weekend.
The Dame 4s will have three different camouflage-inspired designs: green, red and black. Sole Collector shared a photo of the red version:
Looking at this year's selection of All-Star kicks, fans will have a difficult choice of determining which pair(s) they'll add to their closets.
