Manchester United misfit Ander Herrera is reportedly attracting interest from AC Milan, and the Premier League club are understood to be willing to let him depart if they see their £30 million valuation met.

Daniel Matthews of MailOnline cited a report from Italian newspaper Tuttosport that said Milan want to test the Red Devils' resolve with a move for Herrera, whom they would "reluctantly allow to leave" for the right price.

Herrera joined United in 2014 for a similar fee, suggesting the English powerhouses would be happy to get their investment back as the player approaches the final year of his contract at Old Trafford.

Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News vouched for the Spaniard, despite him slipping further from the starting XI following Nemanja Matic's arrival from Chelsea last summer:

The 28-year-old enjoyed an authoritative campaign with the Red Devils in 2016-17 but has been displaced this term and managed only eight starts in the Premier League under manager Jose Mourinho.

Milan, meanwhile, could be preparing to flex their financial muscle again this summer after splurging £210 million in last year's transfer window following their takeover by a Chinese consortium, per Matthews' report.

Paul Pogba and Matic have formed a midfield pivot for much of this season, but Mourinho has shown a preference for other players even when transitioning to a midfield three at times.

Blogger Liam Canning also teased the arrival of Andreas Pereira as added competition in time for next season, the former Brazil under-20 international having impressed on loan at Valencia this term:

Herrera has racked up 17 starts across all competitions this season and has a little less than 18 months remaining on his current United contract.

Mourinho has largely opted to sign specialists in certain roles since arriving at Old Trafford, and Marca's Chris Winterburn spoke of the deficiencies in Herrera's play that could convince the tactician to cut ties:

The Red Devils may opt to offload Herrera this summer and look to make the most of his sale now rather than wait for him to eke into the final year of his contract and risk seeing him leave for a lower fee.
