Chloe Kim Tweets About Ice Cream During Qualifying Event at Olympics
A typical teenager—or adult, for that matter—would be a nervous wreck while competing on a worldwide stage.
Chloe Kim just wanted ice cream.
The 17-year-old dominated her Winter Olympics debut, winning the halfpipe qualifier with a 95.50 score. China's Liu Jiayu finished second behind the rising United States star with an 87.75 score.
In between runs, Kim killed time by confessing to having a craving for ice cream on Twitter:
When someone asked the obvious question, she confirmed she was indeed in the middle of a fairly important task:
NBC Olympics ran a poll to determine which flavor Kim should consume. She supported the winning choice and asked if someone would deliver some to Pyeongchang, South Korea.
It's not the first time she tweeted about snacks during the Olympics; she credited churros for calming her nerves the previous day. The Twitter time clearly did not hamper her performance, as she earned her winning score—her opening-round 91.50 mark also would have secured first place—on her second run.
Kim has displayed skills and personality that are poised to make her a breakout performer. She will compete for gold Monday night (Tuesday local time).
