Rangers Give Emergency Goalie No. 69 'McBackup' Jersey
The New York Rangers hope to never need their emergency goalie.
NHL lore is full of strange tales regarding the position. In 2015, the Rangers called in their emergency option as he was watching the game on TV. A St. Louis Blues season-ticket holder served as a backup in December. The Florida Panthers once dressed coach Robb Tallas when both goalies got hurt during a game.
Already in last place in the stacked Metropolitan Division, the Rangers do not want to think hard about needing to immediately replace Henrik Lundqvist. Yet in an emergency, they may need to call McBackup.

Adam Kaiser shared a photo of his roommate in a jersey with what one can only presume and hope isn't the emergency goalie's real last name. For good measure, the team assigned him No. 69.
No NHL player dons that number, so the unique uniform is at least a nice memento for Mr. McBackup.
