Le'Veon Bell Tells TMZ He'd Sign with New York Jets for a $100M Contract

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell said Tuesday night that the New York Jets have a shot at signing him during the offseason if they're willing to break the bank to do so.

Bell played the 2017 season under the franchise tag, and he can become a free agent this offseason if the Steelers don't tag him again or sign him to a long-term deal.

Bell has made it clear he has no interest in getting franchised again.

In January, he said he would consider sitting out 2018 or even retiring if the Steelers tag him for the second consecutive year, per ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler.

The 25-year-old thrived in 2017, as he rushed for 1,291 yards and nine touchdowns while catching 85 passes for 655 yards two scores.

Bell earned his third Pro Bowl nod and received All-Pro recognition for the second time.

When healthy, he has been among the most effective, versatile backs since his entry into the NFL as a 2013 second-round draft pick.

According to Spotrac, the largest running back contract is the five-year deal worth over $41 million that Devonta Freeman signed with the Atlanta Falcons last August.

Bell's $100 million request would far exceed that, and while it can be argued he's deserving, there is inherent risk in giving that kind of money to a running back, especially one who touches the ball as much as Bell.

There is little doubt that signing him would make the Jets offense far more potent, but New York needs a long-term answer at quarterback, and that figures to be offseason priority No. 1.
