Report: Patriots Hope to Sort Out Tom Brady's Contract After Super Bowl 52

Adam WellsFeb 4, 2018

The New England Patriots go for their sixth Super Bowl title on Sunday, and quarterback Tom Brady's contract will reportedly be discussed with the team this offseason.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Brady and the Patriots will likely discuss his contract this week after they sort out some other issues:

"The things to work out include what to do about Alex Guerrero, Tom Brady's trainer, how to get over some of the angst involved in the trade of Jimmy Garoppolo. ... and then does Tom Brady get a contract extension? He's got two more years left, they think he's going to play two years. Do they let him just play it out, or do they try to get him to cash in one more time? All of those things they hope will be sorted out this week."

Brady responded to the questions about his future in New England, per Mike Reiss of ESPN.com:

"You're gonna see me playing football next year. I don't envision not playing. You're at the end of the race but you've got your biggest mountain to climb right at the end. Hopefully all the lessons we've learned have allowed us to be at our very best for this moment and that's what it's going to take and that's what we're prepared for and that's what I go out and expect our team to do."

ESPN's Seth Wickersham reported last month that tensions have run high in New England all season because of, at least in part, Guerrero's role in training some Patriots players and head coach Bill Belichick revoking some of Guerrero's access to the team.

Brady signed a two-year contract extension with the Patriots in February 2016. He's set to make $14 million in each of the next two seasons, per Spotrac

The four-time Super Bowl MVP told ESPN's Ian O'Connor last May he would like to play until he's 45 years old.

Despite being 40 years old, Brady has shown no signs of slowing down. He won his third NFL MVP on Saturday night after leading the league with 4,577 passing yards during the regular season.
