Report: Blake Griffin out for Pistons Tuesday vs. LeBron James, Cavs After Trade

Mike ChiariJan 30, 2018

Power forward Blake Griffin will reportedly not make his Detroit Pistons debut Tuesday when the Pistons face the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to Rod Beard of the Detroit News.

Beard added that Brice Johnson and Willie Reed will sit out the contest as well.

On Monday, the Pistons acquired Griffin, Johnson and Reed from the Los Angeles Clippers for Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic and a first- and second-round draft pick.

The 28-year-old Griffin is enjoying another solid season, averaging 22.6 points, 7.9 rebounds and a career-high 5.4 assists per game.

Griffin joins a Pistons team that is on the fringes of playoff contention; Detroit is ninth in the Eastern Conference and trails the Philadelphia 76ers by 2.5 games for the final playoff spot.

The five-time All-Star figures to make Detroit a far bigger threat, as he will join forces with Andre Drummond to form one of the NBA's most imposing frontcourts.

Detroit could be in for an adjustment period, though, since Harris and Bradley were its two leading scorers.

The Pistons face a pivotal matchup with the Cavs on Tuesday, as Detroit is just 22-26 and in the midst of an eight-game losing streak. Detroit's last outing was a 121-104 loss Sunday to a Cleveland team that may finally be hitting its stride after a rough patch of its own.

Without Griffin, Johnson, Reed, Harris or Bradley, the Pistons will lean heavily on Drummond, Ish Smith, Stanley Johnson, Anthony Tolliver, Reggie Bullock and Luke Kennard in this one.
