Ronda Rousey Hype by WWE Draws Criticism from Nikki Bella, Nia Jax on Twitter

A pair of prominent female WWE Superstars took umbrage Monday night with the company's continued hyping of new signee Ronda Rousey.

After WWE tweeted a video of Rousey sharing her thoughts about her debut following Sunday's historic women's Royal Rumble match, Nikki Bella tweeted the following:

Nia Jax followed up with this tweet:

Rousey appeared immediately after Asuka won the inaugural Royal Rumble and announced her intention to compete at WrestleMania 34 by pointing at the WrestleMania sign.

ESPN.com's Tim Fiorvanti later reported Rousey signed a full-time deal with WWE.

Rousey told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne (h/t Fiorvanti): "This is my life now. First priority on my timeline for the next several years. This is not a smash-and-grab; this is not a publicity stunt. When I first met with Triple H, I told him, 'There are other things I can do with my time that'll make way more money but I won't enjoy nearly as much.'"

Signing the 30-year-old is a massive coup for WWE, as the former UFC women's bantamweight champion was arguably UFC's biggest draw during her tenure with the company.

Prior to losses to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes at UFC 193 and UFC 207, respectively, the Olympic bronze medal-winning judoka was a perfect 12-0 as a professional fighter.

Since then, Rousey has crossed over in the entertainment realm and become a successful actress, which bodes even better for her mainstream appeal.

A common complaint among fans on social media following the Royal Rumble was that Rousey's arrival overshadowed Asuka's win in the first women's Royal Rumble match.

That match also featured several debuts, surprise returns and impressive performances from women already on the main roster.

Nikki hadn't competed since WrestleMania, but she was the final person eliminated after entering at No. 27.

Jax entered at No. 22 and lasted for nearly 18 minutes while eliminating four people, second only to Michelle McCool.

Although Bella and Jax may feel slighted by all the attention being paid to Rousey, the arrival of such a huge crossover star should pay dividends for WWE's women's division.
