PSG Transfer News: Nasser Al-Khelaifi Dismisses Neymar Exit Rumours

Matt JonesJan 27, 2018

Paris Saint-Germain President Nasser Al-Khelaifi is "2,000 per cent" sure Neymar will be at the club next season amid links to Real Madrid.

Despite only signing for the Parisian giants in the summer for a world-record fee, there has been speculation Neymar will head back to Spain at the end of the campaign to join the bitter rivals of former club Barcelona.

However, speaking with L'Equipe, Al-Khelaifi made it clear the Brazilian will not be going anywhere at the end of the campaign (h/t Zinny Boswell of Sky Sports):

"When I listen [to the rumours], I smile because it is not true. We have Neymar, he is very happy here, he is happy to score. We signed five years here. It's been four months. I do not think he wants to leave.

"He is a fantastic player. There is a link between him and the fans. The link with Real? It makes me laugh when I listen to that. These are rumours. You ask me to answer rumours

"Will he be there 100 per cent next season? Not 100 per cent, at 2,000 per cent."

As Boswell relayed, key figures at Real Madrid have discussed Neymar as of late. In December, club president Florentino Perez admitted to Spanish radio he has previously tried to sign the forward and also said Neymar would stand a better of winning the Ballon d'Or if he moved to Madrid (h/t the Daily Telegraph).

Some moments of controversy have punctuated Neymar's debut season in the French capital, fueling the transfer speculation.

During PSG's recent 8-0 win over Dijon, the Brazil international's decision to take a penalty late on despite having already scored a hat-trick was met with boos from the fans. Team-mate Edinson Cavani was a goal away from becoming the club's all-time top scorer.

Ahead of the club's meeting with Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League round of 16, ESPN FC's Jonathan Johnson suggested all is not well at the Parc des Princes:

On the field, Neymar is doing the business for PSG, though, with the Ligue 1 at times appearing a little too easy for him.

The 25-year-old is an attacking talisman, lighting up the French top flight with his spellbinding skills, his creativity in possession and his tremendous composure in front of goal.

As OptaJean highlighted, the forward has been productive this season:

Al-Khelaifi's defiance over Neymar is understandable, as the club would have put a lot of work into getting this deal done last summer. And while there is consistent talk about the Brazilian's attitude and relationship with his team-mates, he boasts the class to lead PSG to domestic and European glory.

You sense Madrid will continue to be linked with a move for Neymar, though, as the European champions are consistently interested in signing the world's best attackers. However, after parting with £198 million to get the forward, you sense PSG would demand an extraordinary sum of money before they even pondered a sale.
