Liverpool Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Julian Brandt and Luan

Gill ClarkJan 25, 2018

Liverpool target Julian Brandt will not leave Bayern Leverkusen this summer, according to his agent and father, while Gremio striker Luan has said he has not heard from the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of Brandt and has previously tried to bring him to Anfield. The midfielder's contract expires in 2019, but he is not interested in leaving the Bundesliga side.

Per Sport Bild (h/t Kristian Walsh as the Liverpool Echo), Jurgen Brandt said: "Julian's objective is to play in Europe with Leverkusen next season. He'll definitely be here until 2019. Julian feels he has unfinished business at Leverkusen."

The 21-year-old could even extend his contract at Leverkusen, per Sport Bild's Christian Falk:

Brandt has a release clause of just €12.5 million (£10.9 million) in his contract, per Bild (h/t Sam McGuire of Football Whispers for Sky Sports).

The youngster has been viewed as a possible replacement for Philippe Coutinho, who has left Anfield for Barcelona. Like the Brazilian, Brandt operates on the left of midfield but is also versatile enough to come inside and play a more central role.

Brandt is part of a Leverkusen side are who second in the table, although a distant 16 points behind leaders Bayern Munich. The midfielder has featured in every Bundesliga outing this season, scoring four and grabbing two assists.

With such a low release clause, Leverkusen may want to make renewing his contract a priority, although it appears the midfielder is happy where he is for now.

Meanwhile, Luan has played down speculation he could move to Anfield, amid speculation the Reds could activate his £15.75 million release clause, per the Liverpool Echo's James Pearce.

He said: "If I knew, I wouldn't hide. I always said that I would leave it to Gremio and to my agent, and if they had something concrete, they should talk to me. No one has come to me so there is nothing. It has to be good for me, it has to be good for Gremio. I will not rush to want to leave soon, just like in the middle of last year."

Squawka Football showed how Luan was in impressive form last season:

The 24-year-old could be a useful back-up option for Liverpool, per McGuire:

Despite the departure of Coutinho, Liverpool do not lack for attacking options with Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane now Jurgen Klopp's preferred attacking trio. The Red boss also has strikers Daniel Sturridge, Danny Ings and Dominic Solanke to call upon.

Sturridge could leave in the January transfer window, but if he does Klopp will try to keep hold of Ings, per Chris Bascombe at the Telegraph.

If Sturridge does depart, Liverpool may look for a replacement, although Luan's words suggest the Reds have not yet made an approach for the Brazilian.
