Will Ferrell Interviews Roger Federer After First-Round Australian Open Win
Roger Federer opened the defense of his Australian Open title with a 6-3, 6-4, 6-3 first-round victory over Slovenia's Aljaz Bedene on Tuesday.
The tennis legend received a unique interview request after the win.
Actor and entertainer Will Ferrell interrupted the standard post-match discussion with tennis icon John McEnroe to speak with Federer, and he conducted the session as Anchorman character Ron Burgundy.
Ferrell-Burgundy referred to McEnroe as "John Macintosh," and he then asked Federer if he'd describe his game "as a silky gazelle."
"Don't they get eaten at the end?" Federer humorously responded.
"Not if they're fast enough," Ferrell said.
Ferrell continued: "You're 36 years old. You seem ageless. Are you a witch or a vampire?"
Lastly, Ferrell joked Federer's secret to success involved eating wombat meat, a claim the reigning champion denied.
Fittingly, Ferrell ended the interview with a nod to Burgundy's famous phrase, "Stay classy, Melbourne."
