WWE Rumors: Buying or Selling Buzz on Chris Jericho, Paige and More

Erik BeastonJan 16, 2018

WWE Raw will celebrate 25 years of television on Monday, and there are rumors and speculation surrounding past Superstars who may (or may not) make an appearance on the historic USA Network presentation.

One who will not, at least between the ropes, is former Divas champion Paige.

The second-generation star's future is in question following complications from her previous neck injury. Her role in WWE was the subject of speculation across the rumor mill.

With so many rumors running wild, which ones are worth buying, and which ones should you sell hard?

Chris Jericho Returns with No Deal in Place

Monday's announcement that Chris Jericho will return as part of Raw 25 was done without a deal in place to bring him back into the fold, as revealed on Wrestling Observer Radio.

This would enhance the likelihood that Jericho's return to the historic event is a one-off rather than the start of a massive WrestleMania program that will carry Y2J into the biggest show of the year.

Buy or Sell?

Buy. From 1999 through 2017, few Superstars were responsible for as many unforgettable moments, matches and angles on WWE Raw than Chris Jericho. He belongs on next Monday's show, alongside the other icons he helped create magic with over the course of his career.

Will it be disappointing not to have Jericho back and in the squared circle for the biggest event of the year? Sure, but if anyone has earned the right to come and go, here and there, it is Jericho. Celebrate his contributions to the flagship rather than overthinking what he may or may not do at show X or Y.

Here's to the possibility that ol' Y2J unloads on Stephanie McMahon with a silver-tongued insult that pops the crowd for old time's sake.

Finally, The Rock Has Come Back to Raw?

With so many iconic figures from Raw's illustrious past coming together for the Raw 25 special, there is one Superstar conspicuous in his absence: The Rock.

A major Hollywood star with a hectic schedule, it is totally understandable if The Great One simply cannot appear on the broadcast. As Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats reports, there is a glimmer of hope that The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment makes an appearance of some sort.

"There's talk of The Rock making a surprise appearance at Raw 25, even if just via satellite."

Rock appeared via satellite at the Raw 10th anniversary special back in 2003.

Buy or Sell?

Buy. The Rock is absolutely instrumental to the history of Raw. He is the biggest star the industry has ever produced and a household name among men, women and children who have never once watched a wrestling match.

He belongs on the special. If that means he has to appear in a pre-taped segment via satellite or any other means of broadcasting his message to the fans, so be it.

He will electrify via video or in person. Either way, he needs to be a part of the show for completion sake, if nothing else.

Paige's Future with WWE

Ortman continued, reporting on Paige's future with WWE after Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com's revealed that the former NXT and Divas champion will not be cleared to compete inside a WWE ring again.

"It's expected WWE will try to work Paige into a new role now that she cannot wrestle. There's no current talk of her leaving the company."

It would not be an unprecedented move to find something for Paige to do beyond being an in-ring performer. AJ Lee served as the Raw general manager at one point, while both Vickie Guerrero and Stephanie McMahon have been commanding on-screen presences throughout their careers.

Buy or Sell?

Buy. The idea of Paige being given something else to do rather than being an in-ring competitor is WWE making the best of a disappointing situation.

Once one of the most promising in-ring workers on the roster, Paige was tapped to be the face of the women's revolution in WWE. Now, just under four years after she made her main roster debut, she is faced with a future without wrestling.

The good news is that she has the charisma and personality to thrive in whatever role management gives her. If she is but a coach for Absolution, fine. If she becomes an on-screen authority figure, even better. Whatever the case may be, Paige is a second-generation performer whose family eats, breathes and lives professional wrestling.

She will find a way to thrive, succeed and leave her mark on the industry.
