Vikings Find Miracle on Final Play and Beat Saints on Keenum TD Pass to Diggs

Steve SilvermanJan 14, 2018

The Minnesota Vikings appeared to be about to suffer another brutal defeat in the playoffs against the New Orleans Saints.

They were on their own 39-yard line with 10 seconds remaining and trailing 24-23. Quarterback Case Keenum hoped to make one throw to the sidelines that would allow wideout Stefon Diggs to catch the ball, get out of bounds and set up place-kicker Kai Forbath with a last-second chance to win the game with a field goal.

Keenum launched the ball, and Diggs went up and got it. As Diggs took one step toward the sidelines, Saints defensive back Marcus Williams failed to tackle Diggs, and the receiver took advantage of the gaffe and raced down the sidelines for the game-winning touchdown.

The Vikings earned a 29-24 victory in front of their raucous fans at U.S. Bank Stadium, and they will face the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game next Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field.

If the Vikings beat Philadelphia, they will play in Super Bowl LII on their own home field.
