The Los Angeles Times' Lance Pugmire first reported Alvarez had given the fight the green light and that he was waiting for Golovkin's camp to sign off on the terms.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson provided his thoughts on the fight, via HBO:

As Dan Rafael of ESPN.com noted, the site of the upcoming bout is still yet to be determined.

Golovkin, who owns three middleweight belts, moved to 37-0-1 (33 knockouts) all-time with the draw against Alvarez. The bout ended in controversy when judge Adelaide Byrd scored the fight 118-110 in favor of Alvarez after Dave Moretti called the fight 115-113 for GGG and Don Trella deemed it a 114-114 dead heat.

Alvarez, meanwhile, is still one win shy of the half-century mark at 49-1-2 (34 knockouts) following the draw at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

This time around, Canelo's camp believes he will leave no doubt.

"I know Canelo's going to win. I think Canelo figured him out in the last three rounds," Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez told Pugmire. "Look at that fight. Canelo handled [Golovkin] those last three rounds. And this time around, Canelo's going to have an easier time with him. Not an easy fight, but he has the experience now and he wants this fight."

As far as a potential trilogy is concerned, Gomez said that "it'll likely be a natural to do another rematch" once May 5 passes. However, he noted a rematch clause is "not in the agreement," unlike the first time around.

But assuming Alvarez and Golovkin put on another action-packed show, it shouldn't be hard to get the two middleweight dynamos back in the ring for one final clash in 2019.
