Tottenham Transfer News: Harry Kane Comments, Latest Malcom Rumours

Rob BlanchetteJan 9, 2018

Harry Kane has said he has no current plan to sign a fresh deal with Tottenham Hotspur, and the club need to start winning silverware in order for him to remain happy.

The prolific England striker is yet to collect a trophy during his five-year spell with the north London side, and he's confirmed there are no new talks planned with Spurs over extending his current stay, with Real Madrid reportedly interested in his talents.

David Woods of the Daily Star quoted Kane denying he is in discussions and hinting Spurs need to start winning honours for him to stay.

"I’ve always said keep progressing, keep getting better, start winning trophies," said Kane. "That’s the aim, as long as the club keep doing that then, yeah I’m happy here."

Per Woods, Kane also declared he does not believe clubs should retain players who no longer wish to be at their current employers.

The Spurs superstar said, "I think if a player wants to go then why would you stop him? He’s not going to be in the club, he’s not going to play every game, he’s not going to put his heart on the line."

Despite the obvious progress made since 2014 under manager Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs are not a trophy-winning entity.

The club are only fifth in the Premier League this season and remain 21 points behind leaders Manchester City.

Spurs have performed wonders in the UEFA Champions League this term, but their best chances of winning a competition are in the FA Cup.

Kane's quality and ambitions will one day see him involved in the top echelon of tournaments, and competing for a domestic cup soon won't be enough for the player.

In other Tottenham news, Spurs' hopes of signing Bordeaux prodigy Malcom have increased after it emerged Manchester United will not make a move for his signature.

Andy Ha of football.london reported Spurs and Arsenal are both monitoring the 20-year-old, and two unnamed teams are in discussions with the Ligue 1 outfit. The winger recently revealed he is learning English, with his club languishing only a point above the relegation zone.

Bordeaux's poor showing has not affected Malcom's returns, and he has scored seven goals in 16 appearances in Ligue 1 this season.

Here is the Brazilian in action:

Malcom is a young talent who is learning to spread his wings, but he is an unnecessary purchase at this time.

As the interest and rumours build, the immediate concern should be tying Kane to an extended deal, protecting his value in the transfer market.

Spurs are in good shape across the squad, but it is doubtful Malcom would command a starting role in the coming months.

The only player who is unexpendable is Kane, and Pochettino's primary focus should be on getting a fresh commitment from the striker to ward off Los Blancos.
