Barcelona Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Denis Suarez, Rafinha to Celta Vigo

Rory MarsdenJan 7, 2018

Celta Vigo have reportedly made an offer to sign Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez on loan during the January transfer window.

According to Radio Vigo (via Sport), Celta boss Juan Carlos Unzue is keen to add the 24-year-old to his squad and Celta made their offer for the Spaniard when they met Barca in the Copa del Rey on Thursday.

The report added Barca's capture of Philippe Coutinho could facilitate Suarez's exit as his playing time is likely to be limited even further after the Brazilian's arrival, while Celta have also inquired about signing Rafinha.

Midfielder Rafinha, 24, and Suarez both have connections with Celta, the former having spent time on loan at the club in 2013-14, while the latter was part of their youth academy.

The pair boast immense talent in the middle of the park—both can also operate out wide—and would be superb additions to the Celta squad.

Meanwhile, neither Suarez nor Rafinha look set to secure a regular first-team spot at Barca given the breadth of talent in Ernesto Valverde's squad, especially after the addition of Coutinho.

Rafinha has not played since April because of injury but was recently cleared to return to action.

Suarez has been used mainly as a back-up in 2017-18, starting just three times in La Liga and making seven appearances from the bench.

It would be a surprise if Barca were to let them both leave during the January transfer window, though.

The Catalan giants remain on track for a La Liga, Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League treble this term, and they will need to draw on their squad depth if they are to compete for silverware on all three fronts.
