Oakland Raiders: We've Just Been Insulted and They Will Regret This!

Hold up! What's going on? You say you are our friends but you keep hurling insults our way. You say you are our foes and you keep "dumping on us" and "talking trash."

I have an answer for this situation. In your spare time, read Tom LaMarre's book entitled, "Oakland Raiders, Stadium Stories." On page 38-39, you will read about an insulting situation on the football field that got Gene Upshaw fired up.

The details are there, but I want to focus on the fiery part. The book says that Gene Upshaw asked, "You what?"

Here is the excerpt:

"...Upshaw asked middle linebacker Willie Lanier, the Kansas City captain, just to make sure he had heard the Chiefs' decision correctly.

"When the realization sunk in, Upshaw was fuming.

"You'll regret this, he told Lanier, and he yelled the same thing toward Stram on the Kansas City sideline.

"When Upshaw returned to the Oakland sideline, he told his teammates, "Buckle up your chinstraps. We've just been insulted."

And as the story goes, the Oakland Raiders were angry and they were inspired.

That anger and the fire that it stirs in a strong man's soul, flamed up and

"the Raiders scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and routed the Chiefs behind Daryle Lamonica's five touchdown passes, 41-6."

My take on this is that I really do hope the Oakland Raiders are reading some of these headlines on Bleacher Report and in the media.

Some of these Raider haters or doubters sort of remind me of those people who could not accept the upsurging wave of diversity in America. No matter what the "others" did, it was never good enough.

Similarly, a blogger wrote something like this: The Raiders barely won the game.

A win is a win. It is sort of like a teenage girl thinks herself "a little pregnant." Not so. You either is or you ain't.

Then, another said, the Oakland Raiders did not win the game, but rather that the Eagles lost it. That's nonsense.

Get your head screwed on straight. We won. We were better. We stunned the NFL and the nation.

Now since you have trouble seeing straight, you are making us angry, we are going to tell you something.

Listen real good!  

As Gene Upshaw said, "You'll regret this."

Here is the 411. Keep hurling your insults, jab, taunts, and bad juju.

The more you do it, the stronger we get.

Now, as Upshaw said and it is written on the bottom of page 39 in LaMarre's book:

"Buckle up your chinstraps. We've just been insulted."

And the rest of it will be another chapter in the history of the Oakland Raiders, coached by Tom Cable, and owned by Al Davis.
