Tyler ConwayDec 19, 2017

Oklahoma guard Trae Young piled up 22 assists in Tuesday night's win over Northwestern State, tying the single-game Division I record.

Young joined Syracuse's Sherman Douglas (1989), Southern's Avery Johnson (1988) and Charleston Southern's Tony Fairley (1987) on the all-time list.

"It's crazy. It's awesome," Young told ESPN.com's Jeff Goodman. "But the biggest thing for me is that we are winning."

Oklahoma defeated Northwestern State 105-68, as the Sooners shot 59.4 percent from the floor and made 11 threes. He pulled off his historic feat in only 29 minutes.

Young is leading the nation in points and assists per game.

"I just wanted to open people's eyes," he said Tuesday night. "This is why I came here, to be able to play my game. I'm really not doing anything different than what I did in high school—it's just on a bigger stage. I'm just so happy to be winning with my teammates."

The Sooners are off to a 9-1 start, and Young is making his case for National Player of the Year honors. Their last two wins before Tuesday were against ranked USC and Wichita State teams, and the latter win vaulted them from unranked to No. 17 nationally.
