Fantasy Football Tip of the Day #2

Lee JohnsonJun 4, 2008

Last year around this time I shared a tip with a fellow that is in a few of my leagues.  Let’s call him Fantasy Football Joe.  Joe was looking for a way to save time while finding news on the players that were on his team.  An RSS reader was not an option for Joe because he had convinced himself  that he was too old for that new tech-like stuff.  So then it dawned on me that I already used a site that would be perfect for Joe…one of my biggest rivals.

I sent Joe over to Sports Spyder.  Once past the registration process things became a little easier for Joe.  Already a fierce competitor, Joe was at the top of most of our leagues.  I convince myself I had a part in that.

So let’s talk about Sports Spyder a little bit for those of you that are not familiar (those that are, thanks for coming by, maybe we will have something new for you tomorrow).

You don’t have to register to search for news but you may as well customize this thing, right?  Once signed in you have a couple of tabs on the left in your profile that say “Favorite Teams” and Fantasy Teams” that you can customize.  For example, add your favorite NFL team and the Spyder will give you articles from around the web.  You can filter by players on that team if you like.

What about Fantasy Football?  You can also create your “Fantasy Teams” just under the favorite team option.  There are other sites you can do this with but I have a few Dynasty leagues that have as many as 53 players when you throw in the Defensive Players and Developmental Taxi Squad and there doesn’t seem to be a limit on how many players you can add.

Now you can click a fantasy team name and all the articles the Spyder has found for all those players show up.  You can easily filter by player or add more players.

The sources for the Sports Spyder range from the mainstream to independent blogs.  In fact, this is where I found out about some blogs that I didn’t know existed.  Give it a test run, especially if you already have a Dynasty or Keeper roster your keeping an eye on.
