Much Ado About Nothing

Aadonis219 EldraOct 19, 2009

Now some 4 or 5 months ago I joined this website as a means of talking to sports enthusiasts, as youtube has more than its share of ..."special" people who seem keen on only viewing content they agree with. Ive made a post here once but it was quickly removed. I assume it had much to do with the "lifted" portions of dialogue from Tarantinos Pulp Fiction. At any rate I today will try to recreate that initial idea I had before the NFL season started and bask in the warm glow of being right. After all, if its one thing we Americans love -its being right ( and being able to bomb small countries at a whim).

There was a time when Dan Snyder tried to woo Jay Cutler to Washington which I felt was the most absurd display of "I have more money than sense" in recent history. I also could not help but to notice and take issue with what had unfolded before our very eyes. Jason Campbell has been mediocre at best his entire career in Washington albeit with much assistance of his porous offensive line, recent bad play calling and lackluster receiving corps. Not to mention the reset button for Washingtons offensive system has been pressed darn near every year hes been in the NFL. While the "Elmer Fudds" of the world did/do perceive Jay Cutler as an upgrade over Campbell lets look at the numbers. As my big cousin Shawn reminded us " Men lie women lie- numbers dont"

Starting where I left my last post I'd first like to remind you of their 2008 stats. It speaks a lot for the foundation of my theory. Touchdowns 25 to 13 -Advantage Cutler by far. When you throw the ball 110 more times than Campbell its bound to happen. Having a 6'5" power foward for a a WR seems to help things like that happen. 62.3% pass completion ratings for BOTH quarterbacks. Sacks 11 to 36 advantage Cutler. Before I suggest that perhaps Cutler is the more mobile QB I cant get the images of the Redskins abysmal offensive line out of my head. Jason plays under more pressure than a nuclear reactors containment vessel. I also think Campbell knows that errant throws turn into interceptions which leads me to the last stat. 6 to 18 advantage Campbell. Sure Cutler threw 110 times more which is roughly equivalent 21.7 (correct my math if I am wrong 506 to 616 passes by Campbell and Cutler respectively) more passes but threw 300% more interceptions.

This year things dont change too much either. Cutler still has an advantage in touchdowns as the stats show 10 to 6 which can change in one game. The INT total isnt as dramatic as last years but they are still 7 to 6 advantage Campbell, this too can change in one game especially if you saw Cutler's Chicago debut @ GreenBay. Passing yardage numbers are virtually identical as there is only a 4yd  difference between the two. Passing percentages numbers are nearly the same this year too with a 1.6% advantage to Jason.  I dont delve into QB's win records because there are 21 other positions out there that sacrafice their blood sweat and tears with the same zest that quarterbacks do. Lets not kid our selves into thinking Roethlisberger's or Eli's arms and or brains alone won Pittsburg two Lombardi trophies and the G Men one in2007. Too much credit is given to quarterbacks winning games being how a "lowly" kicker can change a game or a season. A bad snap can change a game and a career- just ask Brad St.Louis.  It would seem Cutler has a nose for the endzone and I will be the first to say that the Redskins passing game stalls in the redzone, however this is not entirely always the QB's fault. The way I see it goes like this. Campbell is mediocre 80% of the time. 10% hes great and the other 10% of the time he sucks.  Cutler is streaky 100% of the time. And before you fix your lips like collagen to respond...I ask in closing, you think Cutler could have handled that fiasco in Washington with the same maturity as Campbell ? Basically we have the same car ( with one having a better 0-60 dash if only 20% of the time) but only in different colours and thats what I think it was ALL about.
