AP College Basketball Poll 2017: Complete Week 2 Rankings Released

Tyler ConwayNov 20, 2017

If there was any doubt Duke is currently the class of college basketball, the Blue Devils hushed those last week to clearly establish themselves as the top-ranked team in the country.

Duke remains No. 1 in the latest Associated Press poll, reaching a season-high of 54 first-place votes, after taking down Michigan State last Tuesday. Arizona and Kansas each move up a spot at the expense of the Spartans, who drop to No. 4 while Villanova rounds out the Top Five.

Here's a look at the entire poll:

Grayson Allen scored a career-high 37 points in Duke's 88-81 win over Michigan State as part of the State Farm Champions Classic. The senior knocked down seven threes and a host of clutch shots down the stretch, as (then) the nation's two top teams went blow for blow in a thriller. Duke won despite shooting 39.5 percent as a team and losing Marvin Bagley III to injury after just 10 minutes.

"I've played in 90 more games than the four teammates that are out there with me," Allen told reporters after the game. "I feel a little more comfortable and calm and confident out there. Watching a lot of film of me my last two years, it's good sometimes to go 100 mph, but it's also good to slow it down a few times, so that's the adjustment I've tried to make and I think it makes me more comfortable out there."

Kansas squeaked by for a 65-61 win over Kentucky in the other game of the State Farm event. Svi Mykhailiuk scored 17 points to lead the way for the Jayhawks in an occasionally ugly contest. Kansas shot 35.3 percent from the floor as a team and won despite Udoka Azubuike being the only player on the roster who hit half of his shots.

Kentucky turned the ball over 18 times and continued to look very much like a work in progress.

"It's an all win and no lose game cause nobody is going to look at it and say well, you lost to Kentucky or you lost to Duke or Michigan State and have it be a negative," Kansas coach Bill Self told reporters. "I think what this game does early in the season -- if you can stand to watch it, because I know that wasn't very pretty—I think what this game is it obviously gives you confidence, but it makes you more aware of who you are and I think that's always good."

Aside from those two contests, it was another quiet week for Top 25 teams. With cupcake season fully upon us as teams look to get into a rhythm, Alabama was the only new entrant into the rankings. That came at the expense of Northwestern, which dropped games to Creighton and Texas Tech last week.
