No Plaxico Means Better Eli Manning

Michael DePhillipsOct 18, 2009

As most people in the sports world know Plaxcio Burress, the ex-New York Giants star receivers will be spending the next one-two years behind bars.  Although the receiving core has stepped up to the occasion many people still think that Burress was a HUGE loss.  I disagrees with this completely and think losing Plax was a gain for the Giants

The lack of a tall, go up and get the ball receiver has in a way helped Eli Manning this season.  Eli use to be able to just throw the ball up to Plaxico and most of the time he would come down with it, BUT their were those other times that Giants fans want to clear their minds of, where Eli would just throw the ball up to the area of Plaxico to go up and get it.  Those times Eli threw picks.  The lack of a receiver who Eli can just throw the ball up to forces him to make better decisions, make better throws, and see look for all the receivers rather then focusing mostly on one.

Another point I will bring up about Burress is his lazyness.  How many times did Giants fans see Eli throw the ball up for grabs, get picked off, and watch Plaxico start to walk off the field without attempting to tackle the defender.  How many times did Giants fans see after a deep incomplete pass Plaxico slowly walking back to the huddel and the play clock read 4,3,2,1, delay of game.

I understand that Plax was a huge reason the Giants reached and won the Superbowl and that he is a great receiver.  But the loss of him to the receiving core has made Eli Manning an overall better Quarterback in ways most people overlook, which makes the Giants an overall better team.  Sure I miss Eli being able to throw the ball up to Plax and seeing him make his circus catches.  When he was playing he was my favorite player to watch.  But when it comes down to it, so far without Plaxico Burress Eli Manning has been playing the best football of his career, and the reason, less forcing the ball to receivers, less turnovers, and when Eli doesn't turn the ball over, it is hard to beat the Giants.
