Pac-10 Week 7 Wrap Up

William BoorOct 18, 2009

With the exception of the late game heroics from Chris McGaha and Danny Sullivan, Week 7 went exactly as expected. Cal got back on track, Arizona maintained the momentum from last week, and as I predicted earlier in the year, USC and Notre Dame played a thrilling game that had everyone on the edge of their seats.

Cal@ UCLA: Jahvid Best, welcome back. Best had 153 yards of total offense and 2 touchdowns. UCLA proved once again that they are a quarterback away from being a legitimate Pac-10 threat. Although Kevin Prince threw for 311 yards, he threw a crucial interception in the final minutes as UCLA was attempting to comeback. UCLA is on a three game losing streak and is yet to win a Pac-10 game.

USC @ Notre Dame: 8 straight losses to the Trojans and Notre Dame has tied a school record for most consecutive losses to a single opponent. This game was exciting from start to finish. USC looked like they were in control, but late in the 4thNotre Dame came storming back. Barkley threw for a career high 380 yards, but was almost outshined by Jimmy Clausen who had a chance to win the game. However, he threw three straight incompletions into the end zone as time expired.

Stanford @ Arizona: For the second straight week the Wildcats found themselves involved in a close game. This time, however; this week they found themselves on the winning end. Despite 584 yards of offense and a 15 point lead, the Cardinal could not hold on. After starting off conference play undefeated, the Cardinal have dropped 2 straight.

Washington@ Arizona State: ASU won this game in dramatic fashion as Danny Sullivan completed a 50 yard touchdown pass to Chris McGaha with 5 seconds left on the clock to put the Devils up 24-17. Both teams made plenty of mistakes and gave the opponent plenty of chances to win. Washingtonhas 3 turnovers and ASU missed two field goals and fumbled on Washington’s 2 yard line. The game was not remarkable for quarterback Danny Sullivan, but for a quarterback who has been under intense scrutiny all year, he played well. Sullivan threw for 263 yards and a touchdown. He also had a rushing touchdown on a one yard quarterback sneak.
