Top 25 Week Eight From an Oregon Perspective
A crazy weekend in college football shakes up my rankings a bit, but still, neither Florida nor Texas are the top team in my mind.
1. Alabama
Mark Ingram is making the Tide look like the most complete team in the SEC.
2. Florida
Florida looked downright disappointing at times against Arkansas, but escape with a victory, thanks to two missed field goals by the Razorbacks.
3. Texas
Oklahoma is not the team they were a year ago, but a win in the Red River Rivalry still looks good.
4. USC
The Trojans offense came out of its shell a bit against the Irish last weekend, but they still look ripe for the picking in the Pac-10.
5. TCU
TCU is flying under the radar, but a solid defense and a good offense have this team thinking to crash the BCS.
6. Cincinnati
The Bearcats went into a beehive in South Florida on Thursday night and came away with a win that many teams have not come away with in the last four years.
7. Oregon
The Ducks watched from the couch as both Ohio State and Virginia Tech lost. Boise State also looked unimpressive, so the Ducks jump the Broncos as well.
8. Boise State
Chris Peterson's team better pick it up and blow everyone out the rest of the year or they will start to drop in the polls. Beating Tulsa by seven when Oklahoma beat them 45-0 without Sam Bradford hurts.
9. LSU
Les Miles' Tigers also benefit from a week off, hoping to improve a lackluster offense.
10. Miami (FL)
The Hurricanes' win over Georgia Tech is looking more impressive by the week.
11. Georgia Tech
The Yellow Jackets take down a very good Virginia Tech team, putting themselves in the driver's seat in the ACC Coastal Division.
12. Iowa
The Hawkeyes control their destiny in the mediocre Big 10 and are hoping to join the national championship discussion.
13. Virginia Tech
The Hokies' loss to Georgia Tech is not devastating, but their championship dreams are probably over.
14. Oklahoma State
The Pokes are slowly recovering from the loss to Houston and have a big matchup with Texas coming up on Halloween.
15. BYU
Max Hall and Harvey Unga are trying to win the Mountain West, but the win over Oklahoma isn't looking quite as impressive now.
16. Penn State
The Nittany Lions are 6-1, but cannot really impress because of the lack of highly ranked teams left on their schedule.
17. Utah
The Utes struggled to start the season, but are starting to put things together. The schedule is easy until a Nov. 14 matchup at TCU.
18. Houston
Quarterback Case Keenum continues to impress as his Cougars hope to avoid looking ahead to a big conference showdown with Tulsa.
19. Ohio State
The Buckeyes inability to throw the ball finally hurt them as the defense struggled to stop a bad Purdue team. Is Ohio State's run at the top of the Big 10 over?
20. West Virginia
Bill Stewart's kids hope to keep improving, as their next big game is against the Cincinnati Bearcats on Nov. 13.
21. Central Michigan
The Chippewas are dominating the MAC conference again this year, and Dan Lefevour will most likely finish his career in a decent bowl game.
22. Pittsburgh
This team is flying under the radar at 6-1 and could very well get into the BCS. Their last three games are against Notre Dame, West Virginia, and Cincinnati.
23. Texas Tech
The Red Raiders came out with an impressive performance against Nebraska this weekend, but unfortunately, they are in the same division as Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, and Texas.
24. Navy
The Navy Midshipmen join the rankings, and their two losses aren't looking that bad; at Ohio State by three and at Pittsburgh.
25. Nebraska
Tough loss to Texas Tech this weekend takes Nebraska destiny out of their hands in the Big 12 North.
