WWE 205 Live Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from October 17

The Doctor Chris MuellerOct 17, 2017

The cruiserweight division has been going through a lot of changes over the past several weeks, and some of those changes are helping the 205 Live roster in a big way.

Neville's potential departure would certainly be a big loss for the company, but we have seen a few Superstars step up to prove they can fill his shoes.

Enzo Amore has taken over as the top heel in the division, Kalisto is the cruiserweight champion, Mustafa Ali is getting more exposure and TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs will include two matches that feature cruiserweights.

Tuesday's show featured most of the ongoing storylines in the cruiserweight division, but unfortunately, Neville was still M.I.A.

Let's take a look at everything that happened on this week's episode of 205 Live.

Opening Segment

Enzo Amore delivers one of his trademark promos on 205 Live.

Amore began 205 Live with a promo directed at Kalisto. He claimed he would regain the cruiserweight title while dishing out his usual array of insults.

He turned his aggression toward the WWE Universe and said the fans never did him any favors. Muscles Marinara claimed nobody has his level of charisma or skill, especially among those in the crowd.

Kalisto ran down to the ring and attacked Amore, but the former champion was able to roll out of the ring to avoid the Salida del Sol.

This was a relatively standard opening segment. Amore is always good on the mic, so he had no problem carrying the promo until Kalisto came to the ring.

The beatdown Amore and his friends gave The Lucha Dragon on Raw did a better job of hyping their match at the upcoming TLC pay-per-view, but a solid talking-head segment will always help keep things moving in the right direction.

Grade: C+

Notes and Highlights

  • Amore still has a lot of fans who will chant and cheer for him during his entrance. If WWE wants him to get real heat, he needs to drop the intro during his entrance.
  • It's almost like Amore throws a few darts at a dartboard with different options to pick out his hairstyle for the day.
  • It's too bad Neville might not be around anymore. A feud between him and Kalisto would have been epic.

Rich Swann vs. Jack Gallagher

The first match of the night saw Rich Swann face Jack Gallagher. This bout was booked after Swann helped Cedric Alexander fend off Gallagher and The Brian Kendrick on Monday's Raw.

Alexander and Kendrick accompanied their friends to the ring to hype the tag match all four men will participate in at TLC on Sunday.

Kendrick immediately tried to cheat on Gallagher's behalf by grabbing Swann's leg, but the one-man party was able to avoid him and take control with a series of quick maneuvers.

This was a solid outing from two highly gifted performers. Swann ended up winning by disqualification after Kendrick attacked him at ringside.

The Wizard of Odd and Gentleman Jack looked vicious during the brawl, but they were forced to retreat when Alexander and Swann turned the tables on them.

Grade: B-

Notes and Highlights

  • Gallagher needs new entrance music. His current song doesn't work for a villain.
  • Nigel McGuinness is a great commentator, but he needs to decide if he wants to be a heel or babyface announcer. He is never loud and obnoxious, but he makes excuses for bad guys like when Kendrick pulled Swann out of the ring behind the ref's back.
  • Gallagher has adjusted to wrestling in dress shoes well. They have almost no traction, but he still moves around the ring like he is wearing his regular boots.
  • Gallagher took a hard bump when Swann hit him with a tiger bomb.

Drew Gulak's Plan for a Better 205 Live

Drew Gulak attacks Akira Tozawa on last week's 205 Live.

Drew Gulak came out to take another stab at finishing his PowerPoint presentation. He said he looked at himself as a father to everyone because it's his duty to protect them from themselves.

He played a clip of his attack on Akira Tozawa from last week's show, and Vic Joseph said Tozawa was diagnosed with a bruised larynx and vocal cords.

Gulak continued his presentation from where he left off, with the ninth slide saying, "No defying authority." It's unclear whose authority he was talking about since 205 Live has never had an actual authority figure make an appearance.

He said he would continue the PowerPoint at TLC. Surprisingly, nobody came out to shut him up, so there was no reason for him to stop at just one slide.

While there was one or two funny moments, this wasn't nearly as entertaining as Gulak's recent segments because he didn't have anyone else to interact with.

Grade: C-

Notes and Highlights

  • WWE needs to make a shirt that says "Drew's your daddy" immediately.
  • Gulak dropping a Fresh Prince reference was great.
  • If he ever decides to stop wrestling, Gulak would make a great manager.

Mustafa Ali and Kalisto vs. Ariya Daivari and Enzo Amore

4 of 4
Kalisto and Mustafa Ali take out Enzo Amore and Ariya Daivari with some high-flying offense.
Kalisto and Mustafa Ali take out Enzo Amore and Ariya Daivari with some high-flying offense.

Amore continued to be the most featured cruiserweight in the division by both opening the show and wrestling in the main event with Ariya Daivari against Kalisto and Ali.

This was a complete clash of styles. Ali and Kalisto favor high-flying offense, while Daivari and Amore keep the action a little more grounded.

The cruiserweight champion took a lot of damage as Daivari and Amore kept him isolated in their corner, but he was able to counter a suplex into a DDT to give himself a chance to tag his partner.

After he had some time to recover, Kalisto got the win for his team by pinning Amore with a Salida del Sol. Despite already having won the match, Kalisto felt the need to hit a suicide dive on Amore for good measure.

Believe it or not, this doesn't bode well for Kalisto. WWE usually has whoever is going to win at a PPV lose to the same opponent at the show before the event, so Amore may regain the title on Sunday.

Grade: C

Notes and Highlights

  • Kalisto almost didn't make it all the way over the top rope when he jumped off his trampoline. It was hard to see from the angle of the camera, but he managed to save himself.
  • Instead of doing his own introduction, Amore allowed Daivari to introduce him in Farsi.
  • It's so easy to forget how good Ali is when we don't see him for weeks at a time. Everything he does looks so smooth.
