WWE No Mercy 2017: Results That Will Have Biggest Impact at TLC

Kevin BergeSep 26, 2017

WWE No Mercy 2017 was not a night of huge results. Only one championship switched hands, and several matches were tinged with underachievement. However, the show was still dominated by big battles with major moments that should have serious consequences down the line.

Enzo Amore has officially taken over the cruiserweight division—if by dubious means. Alexa Bliss fended off a hoard of challengers. Roman Reigns absolutely overtook John Cena and caused many to wonder if his role in WWE has forever changed. Meanwhile, Brock Lesnar once more survived a challenger with Braun Strowman not having his number enough to take the victory.

Each of these results were big for Monday Night Raw, and it is possible that they could have far-sweeping consequences for WWE. The next event coming up is WWE TLC 2017, which should be a major event for Raw with several of these big results having long-term implications for that show.

With champions set, this show helped establish future challengers and potentially create more than a few openings for fresh contests we have never seen before.

Enzo Amore Defeats Neville

1 of 4

Enzo Amore may not have won pretty, but he did win, outsmarting Neville and stealing the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. By distracting Neville and the referee and hitting a timely low blow, he earned his reign.

But is Enzo ready to carry that title? The road to WWE TLC will help decide the answer to that question.

Neville has lost his championship for the second time in the last few months, and he looked more dangerous than ever the night after without his title around his waist. Enzo may have escaped this time, but the story for the cruiserweights will be dominated now by the tale of The King of the Cruiserweights doing anything to reclaim his crown.

The ending of Raw only further emphasized how massive a result this will be for TLC. Enzo and Neville participated in a double turn, with Enzo mocking his fellow cruiserweights while Neville stood up for them.

If everything is as it appears, Neville could have very well cost himself any future shot at the championship he so longs for, but it is more likely Enzo and Neville are far from over.

While the cruiserweight division is not always ruled by big matches, this is one of the more exciting and charismatic pairings the division could put together. The potential of these two rivals competing in a ladder match is more than enticing, and it is possibly thanks to the surprise result from No Mercy.

Alexa Bliss Defeats Sasha Banks, Bayley, Nia Jax and Emma

2 of 4

Every major challenger in the women's division stepped up to Alexa Bliss, and she still ended up walking out as Raw women's champion. The Goddess of WWE ended up sidestepping Nia Jax and taking the win off of Bayley, who may not have been 100 percent ready for her return to action.

Regardless of her manner of victory, Bliss survived the best that the division had to offer and the longest odds she has faced since reclaiming her title from Sasha Banks. Now who will step up to Bliss? The answer is someone who has not gotten a chance at that gold since her return: Mickie James.

Bliss was the wrestler who helped bring Mickie to WWE, and now the two will finally clash. This match has the potential to be great if Mickie has a few more top-notch performances left to give. With WWE pushing the boundaries with the women recently, they could make this fight a ladder match or possibly TLC even if the new feud does not deserve that yet.

Meanwhile, the rest of the division has been left waiting for whatever is next. Bayley still has unfinished business with Jax. Sasha Banks is looking more and more frustrated by the day. Plus, The Empress of Tomorrow, Asuka, is on the horizon and will need an opponent for TLC with No Mercy not establishing anyone for that role.

Roman Reigns Defeats John Cena

3 of 4

In a war between the two biggest stars in WWE, Roman Reigns ended up standing tall, taking John Cena's best shots, including a top-rope Attitude Adjustment and the consecutive AAs that won Cena his 16th world championship. It was a showing of dominant fortitude, with Reigns needing just one Superman Punch and Spear to take the victory.

The match came off as a crowning moment for Reigns even if the intentions were a bit too telegraphed. This will certainly be a result that has far-reaching consequences—not just for WWE TLC but for WrestleMania as well. Reigns was once more named the top star in WWE regardless of how the fans react to him, and he may now step into the spotlight again.

Cena's comments on Raw Talk about his loss had him coming off as a man who had accepted a change in status. Given that he did not appear on Raw the next night, he is likely to be taking time off and will not be appearing at TLC. Reigns, though, should be one of the headliners of TLC, with Raw teasing he may soon be teaming up with his old brothers.

The Shield have been apart for many years now, but The Miz has called them into action in what should be a gradual but fun reunion. This does feel a bit out of left field after such a monumental victory for Reigns, but he may be biding his time for the return of his next true rival in the WWE universal champion.

Brock Lesnar Defeats Braun Strowman

4 of 4

Once more, Brock Lesnar has escaped the clutches of a commanding beast. This time, he managed to take three running powerslams and hit Braun Strowman with an F5 to win. It was similar to his match against Samoa Joe in that Lesnar looked completely outmatched for a while but then pulled out his trump card just in time.

Lesnar has been around longer than usual, competing at three straight pay-per-views, so it may be time for him to take a month off. If he does not, many challengers should step up to the Beast. Reigns may be the man set to take him down, but Finn Balor has repeatedly put up a challenge to The Beast, and Joe may be looking for round two.

Strowman should return to his spot atop the heel roster on Raw and move on to a new challenger now that he has been defeated by Lesnar. Jason Jordan and Matt Hardy are both upper midcard faces who could challenge Strowman. The easiest answer, though, may be the return of The Samoan Submission Specialist, who could set up a colossal power clash.

Regardless of who is next, Strowman will certainly be a major part of TLC even without the Universal Championship around his waist while Lesnar could either headline the event or disappear for some time to recuperate before a likely big match at Survivor Series and a huge feud down the line with Reigns.
