How Bad Is Jeff Backus Really?

kyle brownOct 16, 2009

Wow! I'm writing about Jeff Sackus or Backus.....whatever fits!

I was kinda bored so I wanted to know why we lost to the Steelers as well as to New Orleans, Chicago, and Minneasota.

I found out why. It's not Culpepper or Stafford, the receivers or even the backs, it's the offensive line!

That being said, the one player on the line that just jumps out and screams "CUT MEEEEE!" is Jeff Backus.

Did you know that he was beat on at least ten plays by Bears defensive tackle Marcus Harrison last week? It proves that Jeff Sackus...er, Backus has no lateral quickness and the Bears were allowed to tee off on Culpepper all game long.

On the postive side, Manny Ramirez and Stephen Peterman played very well. You can also give some love to Dominic Riola but he was got pushed around by the Steeler nose tackle Casey Hampton two weeks ago.

If only we could go back in time and drafted Jason Smith and move Backus to left guard.

Mr. Sackus is a very big problem that needs to be addressed if we even hope to insert rookie wonder boy Matthew Stafford back into the lineup. There were at least 5 to 6 plays where he was lost in the protection! I mean come on! Its seven on seven just pick your guy and maul him!

Clearly Head Coach Jim Schwartz and General Manager Martin Mayhew weren't watching the same game film that I saw. The three sacks at the end of the game all had to do with Sackus?

We can win with Culpepper and groom Stafford but both need a top-glight left tackle to give the quaterback some time to make a throw.

In my opinion, Mr. Sackus needs to find a new job, because starting at left tackle for the Detroit Lions does not fit him at all.
