Nobody Watches Hockey, eh Tiger?

Greg CaggianoJun 4, 2008

When I saw the article published on Yahoo sports about Tiger Woods' comments referring to the great sport of hockey, I was almost dumbfounded. Not at his words, "Nobody watches Hockey anymore", but at the fact that he opened his mouth about it.

When asked what his thoughts on the 2008 Stanley Cup Finals, those were his words. But what would cause him to say this? Does he think that he and his great activity (I do not think of golf as a sport) are better then hockey? We can only wonder, but let's ponder a few things...

In the sport of hockey, one must be in the best physical shape of their life. They must be able to ice skate, which alone is difficult enough, and they must be able to shoot a puck into a net while doing said skating.

When they're not shooting, they're diving in front of 100 MPH slap shots, giving up their bodies in order to win. Back and forth they skate, at high speeds providing the most excitement one can hope for in a sport.

Now we get to the activity called golf.

Yes it requires skill, but one does not need to be an athlete to play. To be an athlete, one must be in good physical shape. A person can play golf while sitting in a wheelchair.

Now, in the game itself, one stands still and then hits a little ball. When he is done with the stroke, he then moves on to the next hole. To show us how athletic he or she is, the golfer gets into a car and drives to it rather than walking to it.

Now, you tell me, what's more of a sport?

To top it off, hockey, in it's worst days, was still getting better television ratings then golf. Personally, I'd rather watch paint dry, or listen to my arteries harden than watch one round of golf.

So Tiger Woods, I wish you luck as you continue your career, but will anyone be watching?
