Check Out Gilbert Melendez's Brutalized Leg the Day After His Tough UFC 215 Loss

Gilbert Melendez was sore at UFC 215 when he was soundly defeated by Jeremy Stephens. But he was even more sore the day after, judging from a picture his wife posted via Twitter, showing his badly swollen leg.

In the first round of Saturday's fight, Melendez was tagged by hard kicks to the lower leg by Stephens that left him badly limping. He displayed a great deal of heart in pushing through, but he continued to absorb punishment to that shin throughout the fight and was barely able to stand by the final horn.

While it was a gutsy display by the former Strikeforce champion, he fell well short of victory, with the judges handing Stephens a unanimous decision to the tune of 30-26, 30-26, 30-25.

It's unclear what the future holds for Melendez. Judging from that leg, though, it will be a good while before he's capable of stepping into the Octagon again.
