College Football Week 7.

Jeff WOct 16, 2009

This is a GREAT week of college football. Boise State already hung on to win their game Wednesday night which will help them stay in the top 5. Two undefeated teams squared off Thursday night with the Cincy Bearcats coming out on top of the South Florida Bulls (yes, those teams are ranked and are in the Big East..uggh). Here are some of the big games coming up this weekend:

Okahoma vs. Texas (at Cotton Bowl): The Red River Rivalry. People can say what they want, but this game is one of the premiere rivalries in all of college football. Nothing beats half of a stadium in crimson, half of the stadium in burnt orange. It is on the Texas state fair grounds, in the classic Cotton Bowl stadium. If you haven’t been to this game, it is something you have to see live. Now, to the matchup. Oklahoma has already been beaten twice this year, which is not a HUGE surprise after Sam Bradford went down with the shoulder injury. Without a doubt, they are the BEST 2 loss team out there. They are still dangerous, and have a lot of weapons on both sides of the ball. The key for the Sooners will be Bradford. If he can be accurate with his passes, Oklahoma will stay in this game. Texas is lead by Colt McCoy and Jordan Shipley. Colt hasn’t been as sharp this year as he was last year, but he is still one of the best leaders in the country. The key for Texas will be the run game. If they can gain 100 yards or more on the ground, that could lock up a win.
My Pick: Texas 34 Oklahoma 24

Texas Tech @ Nebraska: The Red Raiders will have a “new” quarterback starting under center. Steven Sheffield has filled in for Taylor Potts nicely this year, throwing for 11 tds in just two games. Crazy. The Red Raiders have also run the ball well this year which has helped even out their offensive attack. Nebraska is just a few seconds away from being an undefeated team. They have a stingy defense that leads the nation in scoring. This is a great matchup. A top 5 offense vs. a top 5 defense. Who do you like?
My Pick: Nebraska 38 Texas Tech 30

USC @ Notre Dame: This rivalry has been VERY one-sided the past 7 years. 2001 was the last time Notre Dame beat the mighty Trojans. The biggest key to the game will be the matchup between the USC defense and the Notre Dame offense. The Irish have great talent in key offensive positions, including Golden Tate and QB Jimmy Clausen. If USC can’t force Irish turnovers, they could be in for a long day. Matt Barkley will have his first start in South Bend, where the weather will be cold. Can he overcome it?
My PIck: Notre Dame 24 USC 21

Other Picks:
Alabama 27 South Carolina 16 :D efenses square off, but the Bama offense is a little too much.
TCU 28 Colorado State 13: Dalton and the gang are too much for the Rams.

Upset Pick of the Week: Georgia Tech 30 Virginia Tech 28- The Rambling Wreck squeak one out against a top 5 team.

Game No One Cares About: Kent State 35 Eastern Michigan 27
