Enzo Amore's Verbal Skills Won't Save Him from Flopping on WWE 205 Live

Ryan DilbertAug 23, 2017

In WWE 205 Live, Enzo Amore has a new home with a new set of foes to take to task on the mic.

That part of his game will get him some attention early, but the Michael Jordan of Jargon is a poor fit for the cruiserweight division. He will bring catchphrases and charisma to the dance but won't have enough in-ring acumen to back it up.

A night after battling with his old partner, Big Cass, Amore debuted on Tuesday's 205 Live. The man who calls himself "Smacktalker Skywalker" went right after Neville, having words with the cruiserweight champ.

Just about every wrestler who has fought his way to challenge The King of the Cruiserweightsfrom Jack Gallagher to Austin Arieshas had a tremendous match against him.

Amore is not going to be able to continue that trend. He's a below-average performer in the ring.

He hasn't had a single standout one-on-one match to date, and that's not exactly surprising. None of his physical gifts are special. He's not going to wow you with athleticism like Cedric Alexander, impress with ring psychology like Brian Kendrick or impact a match with pure power a la Tony Nese.

Even going up against AJ Styles, who makes everyone look like a star, Amore was pedestrian.

Former WWE talent Simon Gotch told RF Video (h/t Wrestling Inc) that Amore "doesn't know wrestling," adding "I think most people know that Enzo was kind of a clod in the ring."

Gotch is personally familiar with Amore's skills too, as he battled Muscles Marinara on many occasion on both NXT and WWE events in the past few years.

The Shoulders Up podcast Twitter account went as far as to say Amore is the worst wrestler on the roster:

Amore vs. Neville is not an appealing bout, and neither is Amore vs. Kendrick, Ariya Daivari or Drew Gulak.

Amore's strength is humor, not haymakers. He's a magnetic orator with great comic timing. That's not going to be bit of help in a slugfest, aerial showcase or technical display.

The cruiserweight division is brimming with some of the best athletes in WWE's employ. Amore will struggle to keep up with them. He will add character to 205 Live, something it is in need of, but he will struggle to capitalize on it when it's time for a feud to hit its climax between the ropes.

He's a manager masquerading as a wrestler, and his time with the cruiserweights will expose that.
