WWE Rumors: Buzz on Road to WWE SummerSlam 2017 for Week of Aug. 17
With WWE SummerSlam just days away, speculation is rife about who may prevail in the show's biggest bouts this weekend.
With the Universal Championship and the WWE Championship both on the line in huge matches, there are plenty of talking points as the event nears on Sunday night.
And this week's rumor roundup has all the latest on some of the biggest matches on the card, including a huge spoiler for the main event.
Here are this week's rumors, as mentioned, with a huge spoiler in the final slide.
The Bella Twins to Show Up at WWE SummerSlam This Sunday?
1 of 3The Bella Twins have been notable by their absence in WWE in recent times, but one could be set to return this weekend if the latest rumors are to be believed.
John Cena, Nikki Bella's fiance, is scheduled to fight Baron Corbin in what will be an intriguing battle given Corbin's failed Money in the Bank cash-in this past Tuesday.
And Insider (h/t Cageside Seats) reports that both Bella Twins are likely to be ringside for the match. They are filming Total Bellas in New York this weekend, leading to speculation they could show up.
Whether they do and it leads to something significant or is simply a one-time thing remains to be seen. But you can beat WWE makes a big deal of it.
News on Baron Corbin's Failed Cash-In
2 of 3SmackDown Live's final show before SummerSlam featured a shock ending this week as Baron Corbin cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase.
Even more surprising was the fact that Corbin failed in doing so.
It was anticipated Corbin would do so this weekend at SummerSlam, but details have now emerged about how and why Corbin cashed in the briefcase when he did.
It comes from Randall Ortman at Cageside Seats, who reported this week that the speculation is that amazingly WWE lost faith in Corbin prior to the cash-in.
It was speculated by Ortman that it may have been in part due to him losing out in verbal battles with John Cena. It was also suggested was his social media feud with Mojo Rawley was a factor.
Fans will probably never really know if that was the case, but it certainly adds fuel to the fire.
Spoiler: Potential Update on SummerSlam Main Event?
3 of 3The following slide contains a spoiler.
There's little doubt that the biggest match at SummerSlam this weekend is the likely main event bout for the Universal Championship.
Recently, WWE added the stipulation that if Brock Lesnar lost his title in any fashion, he and Paul Heyman would be gone from the company.
But perhaps that won't be the case after all?
El Mejor at Sportskeeda reported this week that a now-deleted tweet from the Barclays Center, which will host Monday's Raw, confirmed that Lesnar would be live at the venue.
That could mean Lesnar is bidding farewell on that night or, more likely, he is sticking around because he will have retained the belt.
It only makes things more interesting when it comes to Sunday night.
