Predicting the Outcome of Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose Alliance in WWE

Tom ClarkAug 1, 2017

Seth Rollins is trying to put the band back together.

He may not be on a mission from God, but he is on a mission of redemption. Rollins is building on the face turn that led him to victory over Triple H at WrestleMania 33. He's also using that new lease on life as his ticket to the top of Monday Night Raw.

Fans have accepted him. But is the same true of Dean Ambrose?

This is a storyline that had to happen. Roman Reigns has already had his war with Rollins, and he's now busy on top of the company in the universal title picture. A Shield reunion could happen eventually, but Reigns isn't needed for that at the moment.

If any reconciliation is ever going to happen, Ambrose must sign off on it first. Ambrose's nature is that of a loner and a man who doesn't ask for help, but that only came after his best friend stabbed him in the back. Ambrose has depended on himself for three years, but Rollins wants to make peace.

Fans want this to happen, but is that where WWE is going?

The best part about this angle is the company has options. One option does indeed lead to a Shield reformation when all three men finally stand in the same ring on the same side once again. But the other option leads to painful betrayal once again.

Despite what happens, it's sure to be a fun ride.

Ambrose Accepts and Forgives Rollins

1 of 4

Everyone is waiting for Ambrose to trust again.

It seems like a simple move, especially since both men are babyfaces and seem to cross paths quite often. But rather than just pull the trigger on a renewed friendship, WWE has instead chosen to explore the drama.

It's definitely been the right move thus far.

Ambrose's character has no reason to trust Rollins. Rollins destroyed the most dominant faction in the history of WWE, and he did it for purely selfish reasons. Rollins wanted to be on top, and he willingly sacrificed his two best friends to make it happen.

He did it without remorse, and he did it with a full understanding that he was losing his brothers.

Ambrose shouldn't trust Rollins, but he likely will. Rollins has come a long way since 2014, and he's paid the price for his past sins. He had the world in his hands, and it was taken away from him. He fought to get back from injury, and he's proved his mettle time after time.

Rollins has come full circle in his WWE career; all he needs is the approval of Ambrose to make it worthwhile.

Ambrose has rejected the idea of trusting Rollins to this point. But the July 31 edition of Monday Night Raw saw The Lunatic Fringe come to the aid of The Kingslayer after an attack from Cesaro and Sheamus. The Raw tag team champions took Rollins down, and though the fans were chanting for him, Ambrose did not appear.

When he did hit the ring, it was too late and he was laid out as well.

But the groundwork has been laid for a Shield dream team. Ambrose and Rollins are on the road to recovery, and Ambrose will eventually shake the hand of the man who once left him for dead.

Two-thirds of The Shield will ride again.

Ambrose and Rollins vs. Cesaro and Sheamus at SummerSlam

2 of 4

Cesaro and Sheamus are the kings of Raw's tag team division.

The two men, who at one time could not agree on anything, now agree on everything. Cesaro and Sheamus are a cohesive unit—a unit that moves as one. No one can tear them down, and no one can stop them. They are on top of their game.

If that sounds familiar, it should.

Ambrose and Rollins were once that tight as a team. The Shield was impenetrable and unbeatable. If they hope to stand a chance together, they must regain that attitude.

The second part of their success is a title win at SummerSlam on August 20. Though Rollins and Ambrose have not been contenders together, and though they're really not now, the match should still happen. SummerSlam needs high-profile bouts, and this is definitely one of them.

It's something different and a nice twist on an already thriving tag team division. The Hardy Boyz, The Revival and The Club are the three teams vying for championship gold, and they're fighting among themselves to get there.

As they wage war, Ambrose and Rollins are sneaking in from out of nowhere.

Once they begin tagging together on a regular basis, they will get over even more than they are now. They will take that renewed buzz to SummerSlam, where they will face the Raw tag team champions. The match will be intense, it will be exciting, and it will be hard fought.

But when it's over, Ambrose and Rollins will be the new champs.

When that happens, WWE will be on the path to bigger and better things. Fans see two of their favorites on the same page together, reliving their glory days in The Shield. They may even cross paths with Reigns along the way, making the reunion official. It may last only one night, or it could last a bit longer.

Fans will be happy. Raw will be fun again, but the company will be looking ahead.

The Betrayal

3 of 4

All good things must come to an end.

The Shield had to fall. Rollins, Reigns and Ambrose had gone as far as they could together. Fans knew the moment would come eventually, but they didn't want to see it happen. However, the time was right for them to go their separate ways.

That moment will come again for Rollins and Ambrose.

Much in the same way that Ambrose trusting Rollins again is illogical, so too is a lengthy partnership between the two. There is just so much bad blood there, and Ambrose will inevitably drown in it. So does that mean he will betray Rollins in the end?

There may be no other way, though many fans likely want nothing to do with it.

Ambrose is so over as a babyface, but is Rollins more popular than Ambrose? If the answer is yes, then a heel turn would be massively successful. Fans will automatically take Rollins' side and turn on the man who has used his own brand of crazy to entertain them for so long.

But if Ambrose proves to be more popular than Rollins, then a heel turn would fall apart the moment it happened. What Ambrose needs is a helping hand.

That helping hand could come from Triple H. The Game is perhaps the only man who can turn Ambrose heel and destroy Rollins in the process. The move may or may not be part of a new Authority angle, and perhaps it doesn't need to be.

But despite the angle, Hunter's involvement would make all the difference.

Ambrose has been the man who has always been just on the edge. Reigns has been on top. Rollins has been on top. Ambrose was WWE champion, of course, but he's never truly received the respect he deserves. If Triple H gets in his ear and affects his way of thinking, an attitude change may not be far behind.

On the other hand, Ambrose could make the move without any influence at all.

It could be that Ambrose just can't let the past go. Perhaps the run with Rollins will be nothing more than a ruse to reel in The Kingslayer. Just when Rollins believes everything is perfect, Ambrose will strike. The Lunatic Fringe will finally have his eye for an eye.

Rollins vs. Ambrose at WrestleMania 34

4 of 4

WWE spends the calendar year preparing for WrestleMania in late March/early April.

Every top star is on a path to the most important night for the company, and that is especially true for Ambrose and Rollins. If they do not face each other, then who do they face?

The process of elimination should not be the only reason the two are booked against each other on WWE's Grandest Stage of Them All. There is enough drama here to define a new era of main event matches, and both guys will make the most of it.

The Shield was created to produce three new top-tier talents. It was an experiment that worked on every level. All three Superstars are on top of WWE, and fans have accepted them as today's standard-bearers in the business.

So it's hard to imagine they will always work independently of each other.

Fans have dreamed of an all-Shield main event at WrestleMania, and they may get it on April 8 in New Orleans. WWE could move the pieces into place so the three former brothers will headline the industry's biggest night of the year, or maybe that match will happen at WrestleMania 35 in 2019.

It could be that Ambrose versus Rollins is the best way to go in 2018.

The match would steal the show; there is no doubt about that. Ambrose and Rollins work extremely well together, and they always leave it all in the ring. They've worked many times in the past of course, but this time, the entire dynamic would be different.

A newly heeled Ambrose on his way to the top being challenged by the popular Rollins seeking revenge would be the most intriguing storyline in WWE. It would produce great matches and more intensity than fans have seen from the two before.

It would also produce a bittersweet war at WrestleMania 34.
