Jeremy Hellickson Involved in Minor Car Accident; Girlfriend Sent to ER

Baltimore Orioles pitcher Jeremy Hellickson was involved in a minor car accident Saturday. 

Per MLB.com's Brittany Ghiroli, Hellickson was "fine" after the accident. Ghiroli added that Hellickson's girlfriend was in the emergency room. 

The Orioles acquired Hellickson in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday. Ghiroli noted the right-hander will throw in Baltimore on Sunday if he and his girlfriend are able to fly, though the team doesn't yet know where he will slot into the rotation. 

The Orioles entered Saturday 6.5 games out of the second wild-card spot in the American League. They desperately needed help in the starting rotation for a playoff push. Their current group ranks last in the AL with a 5.98 ERA. 

Hellickson has struggled this season with a 4.73 ERA and just 65 strikeouts in 112.1 innings for the Phillies, but the 30-year-old does give Orioles manager Buck Showalter another option to try to stabilize a volatile starting group.
