2019 4-Star OL Prospect Nolan Rumler Commits to Michigan over Alabama, More

Tim DanielsJul 29, 2017

The University of Michigan picked up an early commitment for its 2019 college football recruiting class Saturday morning from offensive lineman Nolan Rumler.

He confirmed his selection of the Wolverines with a post on social media:

Rumler is a 4-star prospect who currently rates as the No. 123 overall player in the 2019 class, according to theย Scoutย rankings. He's also listed as the No. 15 offensive tackle and the top recruit at the position coming out of the state of Ohio in two years.

The 6'4", 290-pound Archbishop Hoban High School standout is a physical force with the power and bend to drive opposing linemen away from the point of attack. While he's listed as a tackle, his long-term landing spot will likely be guard.

Matt Wenzelย of MLive.com passed along comments from Rumler earlier in the month about his Michigan roots and his family's interest in the program.

"I've been a Michigan fan since I was born," he said. "All my family is from Michigan and they're all Michigan fans so that's always the team I've rooted for."

He also discussed what made the Wolverines such an attractive option even though he was being recruited by other high-profile teams, such as Alabama, Ohio State and Notre Dame.

"It's just really a great place to be, everyone there is happy to be there," Rumler said. "They're all willing to help you, they're happy to wake up every day and be a Wolverine. Obviously, they're a great academic school ... obviously they're a great football program. Just how they are to prepare you for life after (football) is amazing."

It's too soon to project exactly how Rumler will fit into the Michigan depth chart when he arrives in a couple years. Too many things can change within the program, and he's still raw from a technique standpoint, especially with his hands, to know how quickly he'll be ready to play.

That said, it's a nice addition early in the 2019 process for head coach Jim Harbaugh and his staff. It wouldn't be a surprise to see the lineman crack the top 100 in the overall rankings by the time National Signing Day 2019 finally rolls around.
