"This type of behavior is not acceptable, and we are disappointed in Da'Shawn's actions," Alabama head coach Nick Saban said in a statement Saturday, per College Football Talk's Bryan Fischer.ย "We are still gathering information and will evaluate what we need to do in terms of appropriate discipline as we move forward, so better choices and decisions can be made in the future."

Further information about the DUI charge, which comes less than a week before the Crimson Tide open fall camp, was not immediately released.

Hand arrived to Bama as a prized member of the 2014 recruiting class.ย Scoutย ranked him as a 5-star prospect and the No. 12 overall player among the group. He was also ranked the top strong-side defensive end.

The 21-year-old Philadelphia native has failed to provide production matching those sky-high expectations across his first trio of seasons, though. He's tallied just 44 total tackles, six sacks and one forced fumble in 24 appearances for the Tide.

Michael Wayne Brattonย of Saturday Down South noted the lineman called his limited playing time a "humbling experience" during the offseason, but he's hoping for a breakthrough in the 2017 campaign.

"Yeah, it's a very important season for me," Hand said. "I have to showcase my athleticism, like you said, I've been waiting, I've been working, so I'm just ready to showcase."

While he's been expected to take on a much larger role along the Alabama defensive front this year, it's unclear whether Saturday's arrest could change that outlook.

The Tide are set to begin practice Thursday ahead of their high-profile season opener against Florida State Seminoles on Sept. 2 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
