LaMelo Ball Drops 45 Points as Big Ballers Beat College Bound

Adam WellsJul 28, 2017

In the Big Ballers' second game Friday at the 2017 Adidas Summer Championships in Las Vegas, LaMelo Ball led his team with 45 points in a 97-87 victory over College Bound at the Cashman Center.

Team BBC completely shut down the Big Ballers offense in a 53-43 victory in Friday's first game, dropping the Big Ballers' record to 1-2. Ball scored a team-high 15 points in the early matchup but was just 3-of-11 shooting and committed four personal fouls.

The nightcap against College Bound was a complete reversal for Ball and the Big Ballers. Operating at a much quicker pace, the team scored more points in the first half (46) than it did in 32 minutes against Team BBC.

Ball was much more comfortable with the uptempo style. He did most of the heavy lifting on offense, shooting 14-of-39 overall, and chipped in with 12 rebounds and eight assists for good measure.

One of Ball's assists came on this slick behind-the-back pass to Daijon Davis, who finished with an easy layup at the hoop, via Overtime:

While Ball's passing skills deserve attention, he's in this tournament to show off his shooting ability. He's been erratic at times, entering this game shooting 37.7 percent overall, but he has had plenty of highlights along the way.

For instance, ESPN's Jeff Borzello shared this terrific floater from Ball that came after he deked out an opposing defender:

Ball did have competition for the best player on the court from his own team and College Bound. A total of four players from both squads, including Ball, posted double-doubles.

Big Ballers' Elijah Harkless followed Ball's lead, finishing with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, Chibuzo Agbo and Luke Haupt pulled off the double-double feat for College Bound, with Haupt scoring 26 points on an efficient 7-of-12 shooting and grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds.

With Ball on the floor, though, there was no doubt who the center of attention was going to be at all times. His father, LaVar Ball, even took time to celebrate after LaMelo hit an off-balance three-pointer with a defender's hand in his face:

The Big Ballers squad has not been shy about what style it wants to play in this tournament. This marks the third time in four games it has scored at least 92 points, though it's only produced a 2-2 record.

Ball will be back in action for Big Ballers on Saturday at Canyon Springs High School, taking on the Riverside Hawks, who defeated NM Spotlight 80-48 on Friday night to advance.
